The Russian 6×6 BTR-152 APC is a modified truck chassis with an armoured body, thou lacking an armoured roof on the rear troop compartment, making the 17 transported troops susceptible to artillery shrapnel splinters and NBC threats. However this was rectified on later models in the post WW2 years.

First production vehicles were completed in 1950 and though it remained in service for several decades, its replacement in the former Soviet Army was the 8×8 BTR-60P.

Layout:

Engine front, commander and driver behind this in enclosed cab, rear troop compartment with mounts for 7.52mm and 12.7mm MG’s.

Mobility:

ZIL-123 6 cylinder water cooled 110hp petrol engine providing a top road of 75km/h and top road range of 600km.

Armour:

Steel plate from 13.5mm to 4mm in places.

The Russian 6×6 BTR-152 APC Variants:

BTR-152 First model, no winch or tyre pressure system.

BTR-152V Has external tyre pressure regulation system. Command version is BTR-1521.

BTR-152V1 Has front mounted winch and central tyre pressure regulation system with external airlines.

BTR-152V2 Has tyre pressure regulation system and external airlines, but no winch.

BTR-152V3 Has front mounted winch, infra-red driving lamps, central tyre pressure regulation system and internal airlines.

BTR-152K Same as BTR-152V3 but with a full overhead armoured roof on the rear troop compartment.

BTR-152U Command vehicle with a higher roof on the rear troop compartment so staff can stand.

BTR-152A Anti-Aircraft vehicle with a pair of 14.5mm MG’s mounted in rear troop compartment. Another variant had the ZU-23-2 LAAG mounted in it.
