The YP 408 was developed and manufactured by the DAF track company and used components also used in commercial trucks. Though its an 8 wheeled vehicle, only 6 wheels were powered (the second axel was not) so was an 8×6. Both front axels were used to steer the vehicle.

The vehicle maintained a low profile that’s to the drive shafts being set longitudinally on both sides. The engine and driver were located in the front of the vehicle, then the commanders cupola fitted with a Machine Gun and shield with the troop compartment to the rear.

10 infantrymen could be accommodate in the rear and had a number of roof hatches.

Development started in the 1950s for use in the Royal Dutch Army. Production commenced around 1963 and was exported to Portugal and Suriname. Its no long in operational service with a few examples in museum collections.
