The British WW2 Cruiser Tank Mk V Covenanter aka A13 Mk III was named for the Covenanters, a Scottish religious faction in the British Isles at the time of the Wars of the Three Kingdoms. The Covenanter was the first cruiser tank design to be given a name.

Although adequate as a training vehicle it was never considered fit for combat use.

It was the contribution of the London, Midland & Scottish Railway Company’s to the competition for a Heavy Cruiser Tank. It used Christie suspension, a 300bhp petrol engine, a 40mm main gun and a crew off 4.

It never saw service beyond the UK, where it was used as a training vehicle, for which purpose 1771 were built.
