Just like all Armoured Fighting Vehicles have Recovery Versions, the wheel based military utility/logistic trucks also get them selves in to trouble and need recovering.

Over a number of years German Firm FAUN’ has established a strong position as a well-known crane and heavy equipment supplier for civil transportation and engineering, which has spread in to the military sector. The most recent of these is the BFK 35-4 Recovery and Towing Vehicle.

The vehicle uses a central crane which can lift either a section or whole vehicle clear of an obstacle or raise it for the underneath to be inspected. The crane could be used as an auxiliary winch with the principal recovery winch pulling up to 20 tonne simultaneously.

The rear of the vehicle has the towing telescopic arm. On the arm is a cross beam and on either end are 2-folded lifting arms. The BFK lowers the towing arm to the ground and reverses up to the damaged vehicle, so the folded arms are then underneath either the front or rear axle. The telescopic arm is then raised and the folded arms lift the damaged vehicle off the ground at which point it is then ready to be towed by the BFK.
