The Brazilian EE-11 Urutu APC

The Brazilian EE-11 Urutu APC was developed in the 1960’s to meet a requirement for a new wheeled APC for the Brazilian Army and entered production in 1974 with the former Brazilian AFV manufacturer ENGESA. They also built the EE-9 Armoured Car, so shares many of the same automotive components.

The driver sits front left, the Detroit diesel 280hp 6V-53T engine to his right. The troop section sits in the rear and can accommodate 12. They exit via doors in the rear and both sides (except the Mk V which has no door on the right).

The troop commander can operate the 12.7mm MG mounted in the central cupola, which the x4 smoke grenade launchers are mounted on.

The vehicle has been built in several Mk’s. The Mk VII saw the Detroit engine replaced with a turbo-charged Mercedes. Other changes through the Mk’s has been transmission swapped from a manual to automatic and central tyre inflation system.
