The French Renault TRM 700-100 tank transporter

The French Renault TRM 700-100 tank transporter was developed in the 1980’s (first seen in 1987) capable of towing the SOFRAME SRPB 60 trailer, which could support up to 60 tons of tank, in anticipation of what was at the time, the new Leclerc MBT. In 1993 an initial order of 179 vehicles was placed and production is complete and these vehicles are in service.

The cab of the vehicle can accommodate the driver and four tank crewman (Leclerc only uses 3). The vehicle is powered by a Renault E9 V-8 turbocharged diesel engine developing 700 hp, giving a fully laden combination a power-to-weight ratio of 6.6 hp/tonne.

Maximum road speed is 80 km/h and the vehicle is designed to be capable of maintaining an average speed of 50 km/h over distances exceeding 800 km.
