The Japanese Type 89 series of Medium Tank

The Japanese Type 89 series of Medium Tank was a 1920’s reversed engineered British Vickers tank. This was armed with a 57mm main gun and a radial gasoline engine.

The Type 89A was the same vehicle but better armed giving and additional 3 tonne’s in weight.

The Type 89B used an air-cooled diesel engine, as the previous engine proved troublesome in the colder weather of Manchuria.

The vehicle was built by several manufacturers in both Japan and Manchuria, which resulted in several variations of the vehicle dependant on where it was built. Entering service in 1934, it was cramped for the crew inside and offered little visibility and remained in service until 1943.
