The Doosan DST Black Fox 6×6 Wheeled Armoured Personnel Carrier was developed for The South Korean military requirement for a family of 8×8 and 6×6 wheeled Armoured Fighting Vehicles for its security forces and ROKA Reaction Force (much like the US Armies Stryker Brigades). The Hyundai Rotem KW1 Scorpion 6×6 Wheeled Armoured Personnel Carrier aka 6×6 WAV (Wheeled Armored Vehicle), was selected in 2012.
South Korean Firms Doosan, Hyundai-Rotem and Samsung Techwin are competing for the $1 billion contract, expected to total 1000 vehicles.
Korean Firm Doosan Defense Systems & Technology (Doosan DST) had started development of the Black Fox from 2003 onwards for the export market and attracted its first order in 2009 for both its 6×6 and 8×8 versions for the Indonesian Army. The companies 2010 annual report also states that it is working on exporting the vehicle to the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

The baseline APC version which will no doubt full-fill the bulk of the planned ROKA order, can transport 9 troops (3 crew) and fitted with a Remote Weapon Station capable of mounting either a .50 Heavy Machine Gun or 40mm automatic grenade launcher. At 16 tonne’s the vehicle is transportable by C-130 aircraft.
