The Russian 152mm 2S5 Self propelled Gun is another military vehicle developed behind the former Iron Curtain of the late USSR, so there is not much information on its development and early service life, however its believed that it was developed in 70’s and entered service some time in the 80’s.
The main gun is the same as used on the towed 152mm 2A36 artillery piece. It can fire standard rounds to a range of 28.4m or 40m with rocket assist. It can maintain a rate of fire of15 minutes thanks to its ramming system.
The system is operated by a 5 man crew, however the vehicle lacks a turret so the crew are susceptible to counter battery fire, the elements from mother nature and any Nuclear, Biological and Chemical fall out. The main gun traverse 15 degree’s left or right.
