Review of the Tamiya Leclerc model tank
This is a seriously cool Tamiya model. The track wheels are a solid cast metal, which makes the model quite heavy. They came in their own special box. I made a few mistakes with excess glue, but on the whole I think it looks a great model.
The only disappointing part is that the MG controlled from inside the turret by the crew, didn’t come with the kit.
The instructions were easy to follow and not only included the normal history, but included a colour supplement about the Leclerc and a history map of all French tanks, which I loved and thought was a nice touch.
Sadly as you can see, I accidentally snapped both the side mirrors at the front of the model off.
I painted the model in April 2008 using Tamiya Acrylic Paints. The base coat should have been TS-46 light sand. I couldn’t find this colour as Tamiya stopped making it, so ended up using Desert Yellow (XF-59).
I used NATO Brown (XF-68) for the camo. I air-brushed the hull and turret and then used masking tape to mark out the camo and then air-brushed the NATO brown strips on.
