Iran had purchased the Chinese Type 86 IFV, which was a reversed engineered (you take it apart to figure out how its assembled down to its basics) Russian BMP-1 and had licence built the Russian BMP-2 during the 90’s.
It also still had various older vehicles supplied many years ago by the USA, which included the M113 APC.
The Iranian Boraq aka Boragh APC is an indigenes development of the BMP series and Type 86. It lacks the defensive capabilities of both the BMP & Type 86, so one would wonder what possible use it could serve, as it carries the same number of troops (which is 8) with a three man crew, driver, gunner (he sits in an all side round protected station with a 12.7mm AKA 50 cal. MG) commander and uses the same engine as the Type 86. It is rumoured that the vehicle offers a greater level of protection over the Russian and Chinese vehicles. 140+ are believed to be in service.
