The Oshkosh Defense® MRAP All-Terrain Vehicle was chosen on the 30th June 2009 to be the sole winner of the MRAP All Terrain Vehicle contest. Oshkosh Corporation received an initial order for 2,244 vehicles in a contract worth US $1.06 Billion. As of June 2011, Oshkosh has received orders to deliver more than 8,700 M-ATVs of which more than 8,000 life-saving M-ATVs have been delivered for operations in Afghanistan.
Orders have included more than 460 Special Forces Vehicle and 250 Tactical Ambulance Vehicle, as well as spare parts kits, upgrade kits and aftermarket support.
Production exceeds 1,000 vehicle deliveries per month to the US Army thanks to Oshkosh’s robust manufacturing capabilities and proven expertise.
The Oshkosh Defense® MRAP All-Terrain Vehicle Operators
America – In post War in Afghanistan, 5600 M-ATVs will be retained, with some 250 vehicles for SOCOM.
Between August 2014 and February 2015 Oshkosh has received contracts to reset 800 vehicles through the companies “Life Cycle Management” which resets the vehicle to a 0 mile state and implement upgrades.
Croatia – the U.S. Government donated 162 M-ATV in April 2014.
United Arab Emirates – In 2012, 750 M-ATVs were ordered and a second order in September 2014 for another 44 from U.S. surplus stocks.
Others – The vehicle appears to have used by several countries in the War in Afghanistan. The BBC News reported that in 2011, 5 Polish soliders were killed in an M-ATV when it hit an IED.
Potential Operators
Saudi Arabia – Reported that in September 2013 negotiations for an order for an undisclosed number of M-ATV had began. There is no information on Oshkosh newsroom on this or updates.
Oshkosh Defense® M-ATV Base
The Oshkosh® MRAP All-Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV) answers the armed forces’ urgent need for manoeuvrability and survivability. The M-ATV uses the Oshkosh-patented TAK-4® independent suspension system to provide superior off-road mobility as well as support vehicle upgrades, such as heavier armour. The system, which has undergone more than 500,000 miles of government testing, provides 16 inches of independent wheel travel and helps the vehicle achieve a 70-percent off-road profile capability to negotiate harsh cross-country terrain and unimproved roads.
Oshkosh Defense teamed with Plasan North America to provide an advanced composite and V-Shaped armour hull belly solution for the M-ATV. Plasan also developed the armour system used on more than 5,000 legacy MRAP’s and thousands of Oshkosh Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement (MTVR) Armoured Cabs already in theatre.

The Oshkosh® M-ATV base upgrade takes the manoeuvrability and survivability of the standard M-ATV and ratchets it up. It’s also a fully functional ambulance with state-of-the-art medical equipment and supplies as well as sufficient room to care for injured personnel. Configured to expedite litter load time, the M-ATV ambulance incorporates combat-proven components such as TAK-4® independent suspension and an advanced armour system to maximize mobility and protection.

It’s also adapted for sophisticated, specific and technical missions, offering the visibility, control, storage, payload capacity, durability and mobility vital to mission success.

With a cargo bed expanded to 6×8 feet, it has the capacity to carry whatever it needs. And with multiple configuration options, including shelter provisions and covered cargo transportation, it can be customized to meet specific mission needs.
