The British Army Challenger 2 TITAN – x2 No.12 Bridges

The British Army Challenger 2 TITAN is a an Armoured Vehicle Launched Bridge (AVLB) built on a Challenger 2 hull and replaced the Chieftain’s AVLB (ChAVLB) in British Army service. Titan can carry a No.10 26m long scissor bridge (x2 sections with a hinge – image below) or No.12 x2 12m sections.

Bridges: BR-90 Close Support Bridges: No.10 (Length 26m, span 21-24.5m), No.11 (length 16m, span 14.5m) and No.12 (length 13.5m, span 12m)

Engine: Perkins CV12 diesel engine, David Brown TN54 enhanced low-loss gearbox and the OMANI cooling group, Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) is also fitted
Armament: Stowage for crewman-portable light anti-tank weapons, fitted with NBC protection system

The British Army Challenger 2 TITAN Operators

Prototypes were completed in 2003 and entered British Army service in 2006. A totel of 33 were built by BAE Systems and final deliveries were completed in 2008. The TITAN was deployed during Operation Moshtarak in Afghanistan during Feburary 2010 in counter Taliban operations.
