The Chinese VN3 4×4 Reconnaissance Vehicle has been developed for both the Chinese Peoples Liberation Army and for the export market. Development of the vehicle was completed in 2007 and entered local production with NORINCO for the PLA where it used as a Reconnaissance vehicle. The vehicle is an welded steel with a large internal volume, so is capable of being used for a number of roles other than reconnaissance, such as an APC.

Troops leave via door in rear and have small bullet proof windows on the vehicle sides with firing ports. Commander and driver have a large single roof hatch.

The reconnaissance vehicle has a single one man turret which can be fitted with either a 12.7mm or 14.5mm Machine Gun. It is understood that the vehicle can be fitted with anti-tank missile launcher.
